Toss This in Your Gym Bag: All-Natural Spray Deodorant

All Natural Spray Deodorant

In case I didn’t say it before…HAPPY NEW YEAR, you guys.

The New Year means RESOLUTIONS. The New Year means forcing myself to go “yogging” in the bitter cold. It means occasionally lifting a 7.5 lb dumbbell above my head in a very flimsy fashion. But, self-disparagement aside, it also means I’m feeling motivated, y’all.

And: thanks to some new spray deodorants that make perfect gym bag companions, it means I am feeling fresh. And fly. And definitely not smelly.

You read right: spray deos. The first I’ve ever tried, as a matter of fact: Blissoma’s Juniper Natural Deodorant Aromatic Spray and FreshBod.

Prior to this little test run, I’d been beholden to my solid deodorants of choice: Soapwalla and Schmidt’s. Both of these have a paste-like consistency and contain natural, safe, sweat-absorbing powders. Soapwalla contains corn starch, baking soda and kaolin clay; Schmidt’s has baking soda as well, plus arrowroot powder. So, it was hard for me to imagine how a spray could ward off sweat. There’s no powder in a spray!

Welp. The answer is that spray deodorants do not tackle your sweat. Spray deos are pro-sweat, anti-odor. Sweating is a normal, healthy function that removes toxins from the body. Sweat becomes *smelly* when it interacts with bacteria on your skin. These sprays combat bacteria to prevent odors. With a spray deodorant, thou shalt sweat. Thou shalt not smell. For that reason, I prefer to use these sprays as a companion to my regular deodorant: post-workout spritzes or a quick spray before starting the evening/night shift.

All Natural Spray Deodorant

FreshBod is unscented, using a mix of hydrogen peroxide and colloidal silver to stave off bacteria and keep you fresh ta’ death. I found myself reaching for FreshBod pretty frequently: it makes a great touch-up spray because it’s scent-less, so if you’ve already applied a scented deodorant or are wearing perfume, it won’t overpower your bod. BONUS = FreshBod can be used in place of Febreze to deodorize your shoes, clothes that you pulled out of the hamper, etc. Because…let’s be real. I’m re-wearing a dirty shirt at least once a week. I’m a lazy laundress.

Blissoma Juniper Natural Deodorant Aromatic Spray has a much longer ingredient list than FreshBod (but still completely natural) and contains plant-based “odor-busters,” ranging from green tea to fennel. Blissoma calls out triethyl citrate (EcoCert certified) as a key odor-preventing ingredient. The product also packs in skin conditioners, like jojoba oil, since your underarms are sensitive.

The Juniper scent is pretty powerful and gender-netural to my nose: it’s refreshing and woodsy. You can also pick up lavender or citrus scents.

I will always continue to use my solid deos with magical sweat-blocking powers, but having a spray deodorant in my arsenal actually rounds out my routine really effectively. As I’m sure some of you natural ladiez (and gentlemen…gentleman? ARE YOU OUT THERE? SPEAK NOW.) know, applying natural deodorant in paste form is not the most convenient method in the world. OK, it’s really not convenient at all. You get essential oils and veggie powders all over your hands. And I’m still trying to find a way to make man-handling my armpit look sexy (got any tips?). It’s a necessary evil, but one I’d like to confine to once a day. Hello, spray deo, for touch-ups/post-gym moments!

SO: I’d recommend picking up an all-natural spray deodorant to add to your collection/gym bag. Totally into it.

I’d also recommend listening to my *super kewl* workout playlist while you’re putting that gym gear to use (hello, tiny dumbbell)…GO.

I am def. going to have to try one of these spray deodorants! I use Schmidt’s as well and it’s just such a pain to put on before a workout in the morning, so maybe spray deo is the answer! Also, I very much enjoy that you said ‘yogging’ ;)
